31-01-2011 Optimization of a door panel hotrunner layout ( valve gate technology) Job definition in this project was the analysis of the optimal number and positions for the hotrunner nozzles. Especially in the area of valve gate technology, a lot of manufacturers tend to use overdimensioned hotrunner systems due to optimize the article quality at first sampling regarding weld lines, local pressure need and so on. One extreme showcase was the mold for a rear valance, being set up with 7 nozzles from which only 3 were used in the final production. The unnecessary nozzles gates were manually closed with quite large effort. To avoid these costs, our client decided to use a simulation for analyzing and optimizing the number and position of the nozzles in advance. The results were then realized in the mold. Due to this, it was possible to produce already in the first sampling, parts with a good optical quality. Comparing the costs, the simulation in multiple alternatives with about 1600.-€, was only a small percentage of the total saved costs. |
